So, what has YouTube been up to this time?
First off, I want to discuss my thoughts on YouTube Live... a live streaming event which YouTube held on November 22, 2008. YouTube themselves constantly promoted this event, claiming it to be a "celebration of the YouTube community". However, it seems that YouTube Live was anything but what it was advertised to be. Not to get too far into detail, it felt like I was watching the Spike Video Game Awards, or some awards show on MTV... the bad parts. In other words... "No sir, I don't like it!".
Another major issue that has recently come up... people constantly complaining about all of the new features that YouTube has been releasing over the past month. Just read through the [YouTube Blog] to see all of the recent changes, and the mass attack of negative comments. Are people really so afraid of change, or are they only complaining because these features aren't the ones that personally cater to their own personal needs? While I admit that some of the changes were probably not a good idea (one in particular is giving users less control over video thumbnail selections), the new features are not bad. A lot of people thought that annotations were a bad idea when they were first released, but now people love them (for the most part). Maybe if we gave some of the new features a chance, and offered suggestions to improve them instead of simply complaining about them existing in the first place, maybe YouTube's engineering team might be nice enough to get around to fixing those features we've been asking them to fix months ago? Look guys, I'm sorry if YouTube removed your spam box... I mean, bulletins box... :P Hey, I'll admit that the old bulletins box was a good way to help get word out on your newest videos, but too many people abused it with those stupid and pointless "OMG UTUBE IS CLOSING FFFFFFFF REPOST THIS PLZ" messages. I don't think YouTube are the ones to blame in this situation.
