YourTubeAdvocate

Any comments or feedback to this should be made [on this YouTube video].

"It seems the interest in YourTubeAdvocate has been slowly dying out."

This is the very sentence I was quoted for saying, posted within a banner posted at the top of the page on [UTubeDrama.com] (to think only a few days later, the banner changed to a link to a video about a 14 year old girl who uploaded nude pictures of herself to MySpace).

For those wondering exactly what YourTubeAdvocate is, it is a YouTube channel created by YouTube user JustA11en, with the intention of trying to bridge the communication gap between YouTube staff and it's community userbase. The channel launched in 2007, but didn't start to pick up until late 2007, and stayed constant throughout most of 2008. As of the writing of this article, the channel has 1,914 subscribers, and 19 YouTube users (including myself) have held the tile of Advocate.

I have just passed the channel over to the 20th Advocate, in who I can hope is able to solve a problem that I've noticed with the channel over the past few months, and that is the overall enthusiasm and support the channel has had in the past. There are a few Advocates who will most likely not be remembered for anything, myself probably included in that group. While the person who showed the most interest in becoming the 20th Advocate basically ran unopposed, I have decided to choose him over some other people who I felt that actually knew more about the workings of the site in a technical sense. I think I'm proof enough that you could take the most knowledgeable person on YouTube, heck, I might could even have chosen an actual YouTube engineer (not that I know any), and he or she probably couldn't have gathered enough interest and support for the channel. The person I chose to be the 20th Advocate is someone who really enjoys helping people, and people enjoy his help and his personality. I think he is the person who just might be able to bring some life and attention back to YourTubeAdvocate.

I wouldn't be saying all of this if I didn't think that the YourTubeAdvocate channel could help make a difference. I think it definitely can, even if it's not a direct help line to YouTube, it can give some much needed optimism if only it had the support it once had. Maybe it's because people expected too much from it, or weren't exactly sure if it's true purpose, but it can still be a much needed positive motivator.

With all of the above said, here are the problems and issues that I addressed during my term as Advocate:

In this video, I discuss several issues which were posted in the comments section of my introduction video. I think I address plenty of important issues here, and I also try my best to interpret several of the problems that were addressed by the comments. I also supplied various concept artwork for some possible solutions to various issues which have been part of the site for as far back as last year. As of this article, a few issues have been addressed by YouTube, but they are still far off from finding perfect solutions to all of them.

In part two, I only address a few issues, but they are issues that affect me personally, and I also use video clips from other members of the community. I also go into a bit of detail relating to the recent situation involving the PRS for Music in the UK.

I have in fact sent these two videos off to YouTube, but I have yet to get any kind of formal response. This doesn't mean that my voice hasn't been heard, because it definitely seems that a few of the issues have been addressed since I created these videos, though I'll admit that the results I've noticed happened before I actually sent them over. If I hear anything, or if there is anything else that needs to be said on the subject, I'll definitely follow up on it.
